What is behavioural insight, and how is it different from traditional research?
Behavioural insight focuses on understanding how people actually behave, not just what they say. It draws on psychology and behavioural science to explore the real drivers of decision-making and action in everyday contexts.
When should we consider using behavioural insight?
It’s especially useful when you’re trying to encourage a specific action or shift, such as improving recycling, boosting uptake of a service, or changing how people use public spaces. If awareness isn’t the issue, but behaviour isn’t changing, this approach can help.
What does a behavioural project look like?
Projects usually start with research to uncover barriers and motivators, followed by rapid testing of practical changes - like small tweaks to messaging, timing, or design. We use real-world testing to see what works best before scaling up.
How do you make sure the approach fits our community or audience?
We work closely with you to understand your context and co-design options that make sense culturally, socially, and practically. That might mean piloting ideas with customers, frontline staff, students, or community groups to get early feedback and improve design.
Can you help us apply behavioural thinking to our own work?
Yes. As well as running projects, we can upskill your team through workshops, tools, and coaching so you can bring behavioural insight into your own planning and service design.
